The Millennium Schools

Achievement Driven, Research Proven & Powered by Technology & Innovation

Students in this millennium live in a fast paced, technology driven, and constantly changing environment. Learning in the current context calls for a paradigm shift in the curriculum, the role of a teacher and teaching methodology.

A City School that has put this into practice is The Millennium School,Jalandhar TMS Jalandhar is part of a chain of schools spread across the country –The Millennium Schools. These schools are powered by Millennium Learning System developed by 100 educational researchers at India’s premier Education Company, Educomp Solutions Ltd, that has pioneered the digital learning revolution in India

According to Mrs. Punam Singhal, Principal, The Millennium School Jalandhar, Children today must be self-directed, tech-smart and lifelong learners in order to become citizens of future who are confident, optimistic with a commitment to personal excellence. She also on the need to make the learning process enjoyable. She says, “Millennium Learning System is a scientifically designed system that supports each child’s Unique learning style. MLS uses the most advanced audio, visual & kinesthetic learning techniques, making education effortless and effective. MLS drives our schools’s philosophy , culture , pedagogy & instructional methodology” . .

The Millennium Schools have been designed to meet the needs of the 21st century learner. Education in these schools concerns itself with development of capabilities amongst students, which are needed for problem solving, rational decision-making, communicating and for success in the workplace. The firm focus is on unleashing each child’s creativity, fostering leadership qualities and interpersonal skills. All rounded development of physical abilities with cognitive enrichment will be the hallmark of the schools. In essence, the school will act as “enablers” -identifying and nurturing the talent of every student and develop in each student human, secular and democratic values.

Personalized Learning: A key hallmark of the Millennium School is providing personalized learning to each and every child. School believes that child learn in a different ways. At The Millennium School each child is given individual attention allowing them to learn in the way best suited to them. The intent is to ensure that each child is meaningfully and most productively engaged in the learning process and to optimize each child's learning potential and success.

This is done through
o Individual attention that is provided through a conducive teacher student ratio of 1:12, small class size of 25 in pre school.

o Tracking each child’s learning style & profile from the time the child takes admission till the time she / he leaves. This enables TMS to customize learning for each child

o Curriculum that is based on learner needs- their developmental milestones, multiple intelligences and different learning styles-auditory, visual and kinesthetic.

o The usage of multiple teaching strategies help TMS to involve and engage different types of learners. For example, for a child who is a kinesthetic learner, the School provide opportunities for doing role plays and hands on activities. A child who is a visual learner is taught through mind mapping techniques. A child who is an auditory learner will learn through CDs being played in the classroom. A primary emphasis on active learning is provided through hands on projects, group discussions, research work; problem based learning, presentations etc. Children are encouraged to think laterally and creatively.

o Innovative Textbooks that help in providing personalized learning. These innovative textbooks are the result of 80 man years of work put in by the R&D team at Educomp Solutions. These books encapsulate activities that enable each child to apply the concept. For example, while learning about fractions, children are asked to measure the quantity of milk they drink at home and note what fraction of milk they are drinking. This not only helps each child to apply what he has learnt at school into his daily life but also his answer is unique to himself- not simply copied from the textbook. Each child participates in individual and group projects through out the school years.

o Technology plays a huge role in Personalised learning. The smart class system installed in TMS provides teachers with instant access to relevant instructor led multimedia content and instruction materials mapped exactly to the specific curriculum guidelines for use in class. The Smart Assessment System is a key tool of personalized learning that enables teachers to instantly assess and evaluate the learning achieved by their students in class with innovative use of technology. This is achieved in class by allowing students to respond to questions through their hand held remote answering devices. SAS also keeps a track of every student’s progress on a real time basis for teachers to build their individual remedial teaching strategies. The Campus Management system enables TMS to use technology effectively for tracking the performance of the students over the years.
o TMS’s assessment framework ensures that each child’s performance is assessed in each period in each subject. This helps teachers to identify whether each students has really understood the concept taught. The report card mentions strengths, areas of improvement, performance of student vis-à-vis the class. Individual remediation plan is co created along with parents.

o Personalised Development of Talent- TMS strongly believes that all students have within themselves inherent talent and potential and that the school must be a catalyst in the development of every child’s potential. The schools therefore offer a very wide variety of enrichment in different areas- intellectual, creative, physical and interpersonal. Talent is identified through observational techniques and usage of profiling tools. A good example of this TMS’s Science Enrichment Program which is being developed in collaboration with IIT Madras.
