World Chess Champion and NIIT Mind Champion Viswanathan Anand felicitated Master Archit Aggarwal of Gurukul Global School IT Park Chandigarh on becoming the NIIT Mind Champion of state.
A 10 year old sixth class student of Gurukul Golobal School, Master Archit, defeated Chandigarh Airforce School and Haryana School and became the state champion in NIIT online tournament.
Archit then played at zonal level at New Delhi where he stood runner up. His Coach Mr Nitin, general secretary of Chandigarh Chess Club, said that Archit was the youngest participant at the event. He defeated Shivangi Mathur of Holy Child School, Bilaspur and drew with Tejas Arora (Champion North Zone) of Amritsar at zonal level.
Ms Aruna Bhardwaj, Principal Gurukul Global School said that the young Archit has brought laurels not only to school but to the entire region. “We always encourage students to achieve what they dream of and Archit has proven his dreams,” she said congratulating the young achiever.
Archit played a friendly match with the world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand. Anand appreciated the young talent and advised him to work harder to become a world class chess player.

Understanding its corporate social responsibility, Alliance Formulations is fumigating and sanitizing schools free of cost. These mainly include those institutions that have remained closed due to swine flu infections.

Director, Alliance Formulations Anil Nagpal said that the company has decided to combat growing endemic of viral and influenza in a unique way. “We are fumigating and sanitizing those schools that have reported swine flu cases. Fumigation would help in preventing students from falling prey to the virus when they return to schools,” he added.

During the fumigation at Bhavan Viadalya-27, Nagpal said, “Affected areas of the school are being fumigated and all the touch points sanitized, so that this New Year students can enter fearlessly to a germ free area.”

Nagpal explained that during the process, fumigation machine is placed inside the classrooms and its windows and doors are closed. Later, all public touchable surfaces including doors, windows, tables, water taps and even handles are sanitized to wipe off any kind of virus left behind.

The chemical treatment not only destroys swine flu virus but also bacteria, virus (including HIV and HBV & other large viruses), myco bacteria, bacteriophages, amoeba, yeast, fungi, and spore forming organisms.

The schools which are presently being fumigated are Bhavan Vidyalya, St. Kabir Public School and Bhavan Vidalaya Panchkula, Gurukul School Panchkula are in pipe line. “We would accept the requests from all the institutional heads for fumigating who are concerned for their employees, and students,” added Nagpal.

Further strengthening its move of granting financial and administrative autonomy to its three campuses, the Rayat-Bahra Group has appointed its second director, Prof Keshav Sharma, the commerce expert as director, Rayat-Bahra Bio-Technology Centre of Excellence, Mohali campus Kharar.
With a whopping experience of 25 years in research and teaching, Prof Sharma’s appointment has cemented the foundation of biotechnology center of excellence making it being headed by a pioneer in commerce.
Congratulating him for the future endeavors, the vice-chairman of Rayat-Bahra Group. S Gurvinder Singh Bahra said, “Prof Sharma is a renowned scholar from University of Jammu. He has contributed greatly to the academia and corporate life of the university.”
Bahra said that earlier Prof. S.C. Bedi, former Panjab University Chandigarh don has been appointed as the campus director of Rayat Centre of Excellence, Ropar Campus. He added that Prof Sharma too holds a rich blend of academic and research activities besides heading important positions at university and national level.
He is Member Expert for Commonwealth Scholarships in Management, MHRD, New Delhi for the academic session 2008-09 and 2009-10. Prof Sharma is also member of expert committee to frame the trade policy, particularly in context of the likely trans LOC Trade as constituted by the Government of J&K.
A member expert in committees for selections to the faculty of the various Universities like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, J&K; Punjabi University, Patiala(Punjab) etc, Prof Sharma is an expert for conducting Ph.D viva-voce at the various Universities like Rajasthan University, Jaipur; Guru Govind Singh I.P University, Delhi etc.
His one of the most important positions held so far has been as the member peer team, National Assessment and Accreditation Council ( NAAC), Bangalore and Member, Expert Committee, Management Programmes, National Board of Accreditation (NBA), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and Member Expert Committees, AICTE.
A versatile person, Sharma has been frequently adjudicating musical auditions and concerts and at the same time has presented 39 papers of research at various national and international level.
Prof Sharma has visited Canada and Singapore as a Member of Jammu University Study Group. He also visited Department of Management, College of Business and Public Administration, University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA under exchange visitor programme to pursue post doctorate research, visited Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA to attend the Faculty Development Programme and Western Washington University, Bellingham, Washington 98225, USA for research and library consultation.

Rayat-Bahra holds campus placement fortnight

Rayat-Bahra Group has started a campus placement fortnight at Rayat-Bahra Bio Technology Centre of Excellence, Mohali (Kharar) for the students of B Tech 2010 of its Ropar and Mohali campus.
S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Vice Chairman, Rayat-Bahra Group said that the companies are offering a wide range of job profiles like software engineers, database developers, mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, program engineers etc to the students of all streams with a package bracket of Rs. 2 lacs to Rs. 4.0 lacs. He added that the drive would continue till January 10 wherein around 300 students of Rayat-Bahra engineering colleges would be participating.
Dr. Sandeep Kaura, Assistant Managing Director, Rayat-Bahra said that in the first phase of placements for B.Tech 2010 held in September and October 2009, as many as 267 students have been selected in companies like Panasonic Corporation, IBM India, J.K. Technosoft Ltd, Open Access Technology India, Hastie Engineers, Stanley Works and other companies visiting the campus.
He added that during this fortnight placement drive leading IT and research company Net Profit Consultancy Group’s IT Division – Aspung Technologies is visiting the campus for placing the B. Tech students passing out in 2010 in various IT profiles. This NPCL is offering a package up to Rs. 3.60 lacs to the selected candidates who will be based at company’s IT development centre in Gwalior.
Heavy weights like Greenfield Online Gurgaon would be hiring students for all streams, Ericsson India would focus on hiring students from CSE, IT and ECE streams, Span Engineers - the production and service house in the field of air conditioning and automation would be hiring from mechanical stream, Shri Ram Group would hire from mechanical and electrical and Stanley Works – a century old UK based MNC would hire students from mechanical branch.
Saber Papers Ltd is hiring professionals from mechanical and electrical branch, while and Tech Labs is hiring professionals from CSE, IT and ECE streams.
