BJP demands flats for the dislodged colony dwellers

BJP leaders submit memorandum to CEO housing board
Chandigarh, 16 March: BJP Chandigarh has demanded allotment of flats to the oustees of inhabitants of Labour Colony No.5, Chandigarh, whose houses were demolished in December, 2009 and then in the month of February, 2010.
A delegation of BJP under the leadership of Sh. Jai Ram Joshi, Former President, BJP Chandigarh, alongwith Sh. Swaraj Uppadhya, President Mandal No. 13, BJP Chandigarh, today met Sh. Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Chandigarh Housing Board and submitted a memorandum to him in connection with rehabilitation of uprooted families of the inhabitants of Labour Colony No.5, Chandigarh. Mr. Joshi said that the huts of more than Two Hundred families were demolished with the bulldozers in December, 2009 and then in the month of February, 2010 by the Chandigarh Administration for the construction of a road. The authorities had assured them that they would be allotted accommodation under Chandigarh Small Flats Scheme, 2006.
However, about 65 uprooted families have not so far been allotted flats under the said scheme, inspite of the fact that their names figure in biometric survey conducted in the year 2006. A list of such persons was handed over to the Chief Executive Officer by Joshi and demanded immediate allotment of small flats under the rehabilitation scheme framed by the Chandigarh Administration.
