FORTIS HOSPITAL CELEBRATES SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY
Milkha Singh, Nek Chand, Meher Mittal among other prestigious seniors honored

Chandigarh, October 31, 2009: More than 300 senior citizens from the tricity got together at Hotel Shivalikview to celebrate Senior Citizen’s Day organized by Fortis Hospital Mohali. Singing songs of the 60s and 70s with doctors, sharing their “golden moments” and dancing to beat of the drums, the most elegantly turned out seniors set an admirable example of enjoying life to the fullest. While eminent senior citizens of the city were honored, many seniors were given prizes for “best dressed”, “most punctual”, “most enterprising” and “best dancer”.
As a part of its endeavor to serve the “golden age” population, Fortis Hospital honored senior citizens for their contribution towards the country and society. Stalwarts like Mrs. & Mr. Milkha Singh, Mr. Nek Chand, Mr. Meher Mittal, Mr. Navin Thakur, Mr Kewal Krishan, Dr. M.L. Kataria and Ms. Manmohan Kaur were invited as guests of honor. Among the others who were felicitated were Mr. M.S Mongia, Mr. M.S Batra, General KS Kandal, Mr. Harchandan, Mr. Inder Pal, Mr. Amrit Dhingra and Mr. Amarjeet Khehra for their outstanding contribution to social welfare.
Mr Ashish Bhatia, Regional Head, Region 2, Fortis Healthcare announced special privileges that Fortis would henceforth extend to the senior of the city. “Our seniors are our prized clients for whom, we are offering free Ambulance services, 10% relief on IPD billing excluding drugs, consumables and pharmacy. We will offer an extra 5% relief on IPD billing for our Golden Age Clubs. We are also reducing the age for registration of Golden age members to 60 from 65. Additionally, we are also offering a discount of 25% on Preventive Health Checks once in a year and 10% on OPD pharmacy. We hope that by way of these services, our relation with the senior population of the tricity will strengthen.”
The seniors participated wholeheartedly in the proceedings, singing, dancing, and flaunting their beautiful clothes. All above 60 years of age, the senior’s sense of dressing and color coordination could teach young a thing or two! Rib tickler, Mehar Mittal, especially came from Mumbai for this occasion and left the audience in peels of laughter. The event also witnessed a Bhangra performance by the patients who have undergone various medical treatments, some of them serious in nature, giving out a message that each moment should be a “Golden Moment”.
Dr. T.S Mahant, Executive Director, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery also interacted with the audiences. He shared his thoughts on healthy living and caring for the heart. “After a certain age, we should be able to take extra precaution and eat a healthy and a wholesome diet. Regular visits for check ups will ensure good health. One most important factor contributing to well being is staying happy and laughing. This remedy is sure to keep you motivated.”
The celebrations started with a warm welcome of guests by Dr. Ashish R. Banerji, Director, Fortis Hospital Mohali. While addressing at occasion he told about Fortis Hospital’s endeavor to make life simpler for ageing population. “We have a special Club called the Golden Age Club where several health privileges are offered to access world class facilities. We are celebrating this day with focus on spreading joy for these members and ensuring they don’t lack motivation,” he said.
Dr Raman Abrol and Dr. Hemant Hardikar were the hosts for the evening and enthralled the audience with their golden songs.
