People walk to: know and conquer cancer



CACI meet concludes with walkathon

Chandigarh, December 9
Hundreds of people walked during cancer awareness walkathon held by cancer Sahayta Sahyog to raise awareness on “know cancer to conquer it”.

Ace shooter and Olympian Abhinav Bindra flagged off the rally from Hotel Taj, while Jean Rodrigues, wife of Governor Punjab and UT administrator led the entire team walking for cause of creating awareness on cancer.
Prof RC Sobti, V.C. PU, Dr Raj Bahadur, Director GMCH-32, Mrs Savta Bhatti and Sanju Loria Vice President (global operations) esYs India Pvt. Ltd also participated in Walkathon.

Participants of the event were from wide range of ages and economic backgrounds. It was a motley mix of long term survivors of cancer, youth groups, fitness groups, active retirement groups, esteemed members of the medical fraternity, leading oncologists, and high network individuals from the tri-city.

Renu Saigal, President, Cancer Sahayta Sahyog said that the Walkathon aimed at creating awareness on disease and to mobilize broad-based community support for this important social cause.

Referring to the latest alarming data disclosed by World Health Organization (WHO), Sanju Loria Vice President (global operations) esYs India Pvt. Ltd said that if the awareness regarding the Cancer didn’t reach the masses speedily, there is a strong possibility of more than 2 crores of the world’s population falling prey to this dreaded diseases by end of 2030. He added that the situation will be worse for India and other developing nations who don’t have enough resources to tackle it.

Senior oncologist at Fortis Hospital Dr Rajiv Bedi read a pledge along with the tri-city denizens to root out cancer from the region.

The walkathon culminated at sector 17 plaza with the participants pledging their full support for cause of society. It was felt that greater know –how is the safest bet against cancer.
