Chandigarh, January 24
Chandigarh is hosting Naviknee 2010, an international symposium, to study recent advancements in knee replacement surgery on January 29 and January 30.
While talking to media persons today, the senior consultant orthopedician, Fortis Mohali, Dr Harsimran Singh, who is also organizing secretary of the coveted conference said, “Over thirty experts from all over India and abroad are scheduled to take part in the conference.”
Dr Harsimran said pioneer of computer navigated surgery from Germany, Dr Frank Lampe would speak on role navigation in joint replacement surgeries.
“With recent medical advancements conventional methods are replaced with innovative techniques aiming at giving maximum comfort to patient with minimum trauma and hospitalization,” he said.
Dwelling on the finer aspects of computer navigated knee replacement surgery, Dr Harsimran said that there are very few trained surgeons in India.
“Added to this, the lack of concern in general public is cause of main concern. During this conference we would aim at spreading awareness among the medical fraternity and patients at large about the technique over the old conventional method,” he said.
Elaborating more about this technique Dr Harsimran said that this procedure involves a sophisticated computer software programme that is used to calculate angles of the knee and plan absolutely correct bone cuts and size of implant. This precision totally eliminates any chance of human error, which is very much possible in old conventional method.
“This leads to faster recovery, less pain, longer life of the implant, more comfort, and no chance of re-surgery due to any human error,” he added.
He added that during conference Dr Ramesh Chandra from Hyderabad would deliver inaugural address. Dr. Avtar Singh from Amritsar will share experience of (TKR) total knee replacement with Ortho pilot, Dr. EG Mohan Kumar from Kerala would speak on usage of ortho pilot in TKR and tips n tricks by soft tissue balancing with ortho pilot by Dr. Vrajesh Shah from Baroda will be presented.
Dr. Harsimran Singh would speak on challenges in navigated TKR and Dr Frank Lampe would share his experiences with Ortho pilot Navigation.
