Jalvehra (Fategarh Sahib), January 15
The headquarter 2 Corps celebrated Army Day amidst the civilians showcasing its battle ornaments and latest hi-tech weapons at Continental Group of Institutes, Jalvehra campus here today.
CGI was decked with metallic beauties showcased with pride by the Indian army and educated civilians on the latest warfare available with army. Civilians had a busy time going through the shining latest tanks, artillery guns, missiles, infantry weapons and other engineering and communication equipments in use.
Chief Guest at the occasion, media advisor to chief minister Punjab, Harcharan Singh Bains said that such exhibitions were needed to bridge gap between army personnel and civilians. “This exhibit has given people an opportunity to know our mighty army more closely,” Bains said. He exhorted efforts of CGI in holding this grand event successfully.
Lt. Col. B.S. Sandhu, Chairman & Managing Director, WWICS Group of Companies welcomed the guests. Sandhu remarked, “Number of youth joining army is on constant decline. The need is to sensitize on honor and job opportunities army brings with it. We also plan to hold army recruitment rallies in its campus in near future to facilitate youngsters to join forces.”
Gen BKN Chibber, Former Governor, Punjab and A.S. Chatha, Former Chief Secretary, Punjab also graced the occasion with their august presence. The gallantry award winners including retired veterans of region were also present.
Later, the chief guest HS Bains and special invitees took a round of the weapons and machines on display and interacted with army personnel on duty.
The army authorities had set up an information kiosk to educate visitors about recruitment prospects and modalities to join army at various ranks. The visitors, especially students from schools and colleges and youth enjoyed tank rides being organized by the Tank Regiments participating in the event.
An equestrian team demonstrated acrobatics by trained horses – an indispensable part of Army. Army dog units held a special dog show that remained centre of attraction. Three Army Pipe bands drawn from different Infantry Battalions added marshal melody to this event.
Fifty war widows of district were honored. Col B S Sandhu, Chairman of the Group Institutes, on behalf of WWICS Group of Companies, honored these widows. A cultural show was also presented on the occasion.
