Joshi flags off shobha yatra on Kabir Jayanti



Kabir panthis demand temple in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, June 6

Shri Jai Ram Joshi, Ex President BJP Chandigarh flagged off shobha yatra organized on eve of Kabir Jayanti here today in Chandigarh.

The pious occasion marked followers of Sant Kabir participating in this yatra with zeal and enthusiasm. Shobha yatra started from from sector 25 and concluded in industrial area phase I. On its way passing from sectors 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 30 and 29, the yatra witness mass participation of Sant Kabir’s followers.

The other prominent personalities at occasion included Ms. Sheila Phool, President and Madan Lal general secretary and other office bearers of Sadguru Kabir Mahasabha, Chandigarh.

In their charter of demands handed over to Shri Jai Ram Joshi, the Sadguru Kabir Mahasabha, Chandigarh representatives stated that there are 20, 000 followers of Sant Kabir in Chandigarh.

Despite having such strong mass base, the community does not have a temple or bhawan in its name. They demanded that land be allotted in name of Sant Kabir Temple or bhawan.

Community people demanded that Kabir Jayanti be declared a public holiday in order to give due respect to the great saint.

The intellects were of view that a chair be established at Panjab University in name of Sant Kabir to pursue research studies on the religion. It was proposed that a scholarship scheme be launched in name of Sant Kabir in all educational institutes.

Since long, the Kabir panthis have been facing problem of issuance of scheduled caste certificates for various reasons. All slum dwellers with voter cards or ration cards should be given houses in Chandigarh, they demanded.

They were of opinion that adequate representation be given to Dhanak Samaj or Kabir Panthis in various advisory bodies of Chandigarh administration.
