Dr Radhakrishnan remembered on teachers’ day
The Millennium School celebrates teachers’ day with zest
Mohali, September 5
Dance numbers and songs, especially composed for teachers’ day celebrations, greeted the teachers of The Millennium School, Mohali.
School’s staff and students celebrated birthday of second president of India Dr Radhakrishnan, which is commemorated as teachers’ day as a mark of respect to the teaching community.
The students conducted a quiz contest too wherein questions related to the commemorative day were asked.
Some of the little ones of the pre-primary classes came dressed as their teachers. The students imitated their teachers sending audience into peels of laughter.
Speaking on the occasion principal Komal Singh reminded teachers their commitment to the profession they had chosen.
“Students spend about 25,000 hours of their lives in schools and it is the duty of their mentors to provide them with a healthy, happy atmosphere, conducive to learning, so that coming to school is a pleasant task for them,” she said.
One of the students dwelt on life of Dr Radhakrishnan for the knowledge of those who had come from abroad.
The students said that when Dr. Radhakrishnan became president of India in 1962, some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday.
In reply, Dr Radhakrishnan said that instead of celebrating his birthday separately, it would be his proud privilege if September 5 were observed as teachers' day. From then onwards, day has been observed as teachers' day in India.
