Experts educate youth on growing threat of Drug abuse
Awareness seminar on drug abuse organized


Chandigarh, 4 Feb: To highlight the growing problem of Drug abuse within the youth of India, an NGO “WE FOR NATION” took a noble initiative of organizing awareness program on Drug abuse in DAV College here today. Amrit Sagar, Joint General Secretary of RSS, Punjab along with Dr. Arun Tandon, Nodal officer for De- addiction and mental health, Punjab were the keynote speakers on this occasion.

President of “WE FOR NATION” Lalit Sanger, while welcoming the guests said that the program has been organized with an endeavor to educate the youth about the growing threat of drug abuse and the challenges faced by our country to overcome it.

Expressing serious concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse, Amrit Sagar said that the growing indulgence of youth in it is posing a serious threat to the social system and has become a matter of great concern for our society. He said that by the end of year 2020 India will become the youngest nation of the world and the responsibility of leading this nation lay in the hands of younger generation.

He called upon the youth to join hands for tackling this social evil by rendering their time and knowledge and encouraged them to follow the foot steps of the likes of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi & Shahid Bhagat Singh. He praised the team of “WE FOR NATION” for organizing the drug abuse awareness seminar and assured the full support of Rastriya swayay Sewak Sangh in this gigantic task.

While speaking on this occasion Dr. Arun Tandon said that the problem of drug abuse has already inflicted 14% of the youth in Amritsar and 16% in Ludhiana. The intensity of the drug abuse in north- east has risen to 50% and is rapidly spreading its wings in other parts of the country. He further suggested that the parents should keep a vigil on their children’s activities especially during the teen age and also urged the Government to take stringent steps to overcome this problem before it’s too late.

Rakesh Raseela a Head constable in Chandigarh police along with Sudesh Sharma a theater personality were honored for their contribution in the field of Drug awareness on this occasion.
