Kharar, November 19
The workshop on disaster management preparedness began today at Rayat & Bahra College Of Law, Sahauran campus today.
Vice-chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala Dr Jaspal Singh, in his presidential address at three-day workshop remarked that such events highlight need for preparing oneself to deal with any kind of natural or unnatural disaster.
“Discussing such issues at the level of educational institutes helps inculcating the idea at the student level. This is an appreciable initiative of Rayat-Bahra group,” he added.
During this event experts shall dwell upon a host of issues including first aid, earth quake management, clinical psychology, consultations, flood management, fire management and all other natural calamities. The participants are being provided literature and practical orientation as well.
Prof. (Dr.) G.S. Bajwa, Director- Principal, Rayat & Bahra College of Law, Mohali welcomed the gathering at occasion. He said that the workshop was being held under aegis of NSS, in collaboration with NSS Wing, Punjabi University, Patiala and Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCTST), Chandigarh.
Dr. Kulbir Singh Bath, Principal Scientific Officer, PSCST, Chandigarh spoke on objectives of Workshop that realizes the need of hour to equip people with managing in a disaster. Dr. Paramvir Singh, programme coordinator, NSS, Punjabi University, Patiala spoke extensively on role of NSS in disaster management.
In his vote of thanks Gurvinder Singh Bahra, vice-chairman, RBGI thanked Dr Jaspal Singh and other dignitaries for being a part of endeavor of Rayat-Bahra to mitigate disasters’ destructive trail and prepare masses to manage them.
During the second session Dr Neelam Gulati Sharma, Joint Director, PSCST, Chandigarh delivered key note address. Jatinder Pal Singh, Dean, Academics, Chandigarh College of Architecture, Chandigarh enlightened gathering on earth quakes and building structure. He emphasized on making earth quake proof buildings and explained the mechanism behind it.
Harmanjit Singh, Commandent, Central Institute of Training for Civil Defence, Mohali delivered lecture on civil defence. He also trained the participants and gave demo on civil defence and security.
