‘Basant Panchami’ celebrations at Ashmah

Mohali January 21. Students of Ashmah International School enjoyed Yellow Day on the occasion of ‘Basant Panchami’ celebrations in the school. The pre-primary and the primary classes of the school participated whole heartedly in the function. The children offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati. The skies were resplendent with kites of all colours and sizes. The school was decorated with yellow balloons and buntings. Shades of sunny yellow brightened up the ambience of the school. Both, the students and the teachers had come dressed in yellow attires. Students had brought home cooked traditional yellow coloured dishes in their tiffin.
The students of class II and III presented dances. Congratulating everybody on the occasion, Principal, Mrs. Roopinder Ghuman said that the festival signifies the happiness and comes to brighten up our lives and bless us with the joys that last throughout the year. Explaining the significance of the festival Mrs. Ghuman inspired the students to enjoy their studies to attain their goals.
Director of the school, Mr. J.S. Kesar appreciated the efforts of the staff. He said such functions are must to upgrade the knowledge of our children.

Dance and music fest held at The Millennium School, Mohali

Scintillating dance performances steal show

Mohali, January 19

Scintillating performances and foot tapping music marked the two-day dance-n-music fest held at The Millennium School Mohali.

Every student participating in the dance items remained highlight of the event. Each class put up spectacular and unparallel performance.

The repertoire of songs and dances started with Krishan Vandana. Show exhibited array evergreen favorites like Do Re Me, My Heart Goes Sha-La-La-La, Lathe Di Chaddar to latest hits Jai Ho.

School band - The Millennium Rockers enthralled the audience with their scintillating performances. The boy students on drum played instrument with their full zeal creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Dance sequences didn’t limit themselves only till entertainment. The nature dance presented by class IV reiterated need to protect our environment. Tiny tots from class I presented the western numbers gyrating to the melodious music. Class V students presented a gorgeous medley of western and Indian dance form, while the mask dance by VI had everyone in jitters!

To lighten the mood class VIII presented the song rock-on and also performed a stick dance. Class VII students presented a Christmas Carol Silent Night and ending with a lovely dance to the song Vande Matram.

Principal Komal Singh exhorted the efforts of music & dance teachers in making the event a success and ensuring that every student was a part of the musical endeavor.

Shimla, January 17
Ignoring blackened toes may not only lead to amputation of foot or leg, but can also cause onset of heart ailment.
Leading vascular surgeon Dr Ravul Jindal, Head of Vascular and Endovascular surgery with Fortis Hospital, Mohali, Punjab revealed while addressing media persons today.
Dr Jindal added that this peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is associated with old age, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.
People living in hilly terrain are more prone to these diseases because of old age and high incidence of smoking.
“Those from hills have to walk a lot and hence develop symptoms of the disease quiet in form of pain in calf or thigh while walking. Unfortunately these diseases are not diagnosed on time and patients ultimately land up with gangrene and consequent limb amputation,” Dr Jindal added.
The incidence of diseases varies from 4-6 percent in the population aged more than 50 years. Risk factors result in blockade of blood vessels in leg resulting in loss of blood supply to foot with consequences such as infection, non healing ulcer and gangrene (blackening of toes).
Dr Jindal who has received advanced training in vascular surgical procedures from St Mary's Hospital, London adds that people suffering from PAD run two to six times greater risk of dying from heart attack or stroke as compared to others.
“If not treated on time, patients can have amputation either of foot or leg. This carries a huge morbidity and mortality as these patients also have associated heart disease,” he added. Smokers having associated diabetes are more prone for gangrene than smoking or diabetes alone.
The absence of early diagnosis worsens problem in individual. “Though there are no figures for vascular patients in country, the fact that there are over 25 million diabetics is just a small pointer to vast numbers of undiagnosed vascular cases. Studies show that patients of severe vascular disease have been treated for low backache and arthritis for years,” he revealed.
Its onset of peripheral gangrene that reveals absence of pulsations for long periods of time hitherto unnoticed. After diagnosis also only treatment of these cases has been amputations leaving primary vascular problem unsolved.
Dr Jindal said that first physical sign of loss of circulation may be loss of pulses in feet. Therefore it is very important that doctor checks pulses in feet every three months.
Lowering blood pressure, bad cholesterol levels, managing blood glucose and regular exercises are best ways to prevent these diseases.
Dr Jindal suggested that lifestyle should be charted to increase healthy circulation of blood from heart to various body parts and vice versa, besides administration of anti clogging or anti platelet drugs and specialized vascular surgery.
Even as very few specialized vascular surgeons are available for vascular surgery, still Dr Jindal feels that prevention and precaution are effective ways to deal with arterial diseases.

Chandigarh, January 16
Bank of Baroda today opened its 100th branch in Chandigarh Region in sector 26, grain market, Chandigarh.
Chief Guest at the occasion, Ajit M Saran financial commissioner and principal secretary to Government of Haryana, inaugurated the branch.
In his address to the gathering, Saran congratulated Bank of Baroda for carving yet another landmark in the chapter of Indian banking. “Bank of Baroda is a common man’s bank that is serving people economically aiming at all around development,” he said.
R.K. Bakshi, Executive Director, Bank of Baroda, was the guest of honor and presided over the function. He accompanied Saran in inaugurating the branch.
Talking at the occasion RK Bakshi, Executive Director said that the Bank of Baroda has featured among 50 India’s Most Valuable Brands (2009) by a leading global brand valuation firm, Brand Finance.
“The bank also features in the elite club of nine banking and finance companies in the list. Bank of Baroda has achieved 34th position as against its 39th position last year. The brand is now valued at 466 US million $, close to 11 percent increase from last year. The Brand Finance IMVB study indicates that as long as brands continue to reinvent and deliver good value for money, they will do well,” Bakshi remarked.
In his welcome address DGM S.K. Goyal highlighted performance of Chandigarh Region. He said that this newly opened branch would provide all modern day facilities to the people.

He added that region’s total deposits have increased from Rs.3689 crores as on 31.03.09 to Rs.4257 crores as on December 31, 2009, registering a growth of 15.40 percent. Region’s advances have increased from Rs.2624.47 crores to Rs.2883.81 crores during the same period registering a growth of 10.15 percent.
