The headquarter 2 Corps celebrated Army Day amidst the civilians showcasing its battle ornaments and latest hi-tech weapons at Continental Group of Institutes, Jalvehra campus here today.
CGI was decked with metallic beauties showcased with pride by the Indian army and educated civilians on the latest warfare available with army. Civilians had a busy time going through the shining latest tanks, artillery guns, missiles, infantry weapons and other engineering and communication equipments in use.
Chief Guest at the occasion, media advisor to chief minister Punjab, Harcharan Singh Bains said that such exhibitions were needed to bridge gap between army personnel and civilians. “This exhibit has given people an opportunity to know our mighty army more closely,” Bains said. He exhorted efforts of CGI in holding this grand event successfully.
Lt. Col. B.S. Sandhu, Chairman & Managing Director, WWICS Group of Companies welcomed the guests. Sandhu remarked, “Number of youth joining army is on constant decline. The need is to sensitize on honor and job opportunities army brings with it. We also plan to hold army recruitment rallies in its campus in near future to facilitate youngsters to join forces.”
Gen BKN Chibber, Former Governor, Punjab and A.S. Chatha, Former Chief Secretary, Punjab also graced the occasion with their august presence. The gallantry award winners including retired veterans of region were also present.
Later, the chief guest HS Bains and special invitees took a round of the weapons and machines on display and interacted with army personnel on duty.
The army authorities had set up an information kiosk to educate visitors about recruitment prospects and modalities to join army at various ranks. The visitors, especially students from schools and colleges and youth enjoyed tank rides being organized by the Tank Regiments participating in the event.
An equestrian team demonstrated acrobatics by trained horses – an indispensable part of Army. Army dog units held a special dog show that remained centre of attraction. Three Army Pipe bands drawn from different Infantry Battalions added marshal melody to this event.
Fifty war widows of district were honored. Col B S Sandhu, Chairman of the Group Institutes, on behalf of WWICS Group of Companies, honored these widows. A cultural show was also presented on the occasion.

The global IT giant, Infosys Technologies Limited would be holding a placement drive at Ryat-Bahra Center of Bio-Excellence, Kharar on January 15.
Infosys is holding this placement drive for students of Rayat-Bahra group under its campus recruitment programme 2009- 2010. The company would be recruiting systems engineer with a gross pay package of Rs 3.25 lacs per annum.
S Gurvinder Singh Bahra, the vice-chairman Rayat-Bahra group said that it was a matter of pride for the group that IT giant like Infosys was recruiting students from its campus. He said that during the training period, the selected students would be offered Rs 2.7 lac per annum.
After allocation of business units the students of BE/ B Tech/ MCA/ MSc selected would be offered Rs Rs. 3.25 lacs per annum, while those from ME/ MTech would be offered Rs. 3.50 lacs per annum.
The company would also be offering 15 percent training performance incentive to the selected candidates undergoing training with it. MCA / MSc / ME/ M Tech students minimum 60 percent marks in X and XII and 65 percent in post graduation are allowed to appear. Engineers BE/ B.Tech/ ME/ M.Tech as well as MCA and M Sc from twenty- one enlisted disciplines are also eligible to appear for the placement drive.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently Rayat-Bahra Group has held campus placement fortnight for the students of B Tech 2010 of its Ropar and Mohali campus.
Companies offering a wide range of job profiles like software engineers, database developers, mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, program engineers etc participated in this drive offering package bracket of Rs. 2 lacs to Rs. 4.0 lacs. Around 300 students of Rayat-Bahra engineering colleges participated in this drive.
Dr. Sandeep Kaura, Assistant Managing Director, Rayat-Bahra said that in first phase of placements for B.Tech 2010 held in September and October 2009, as many as 267 students wree selected in companies like Panasonic Corporation, IBM India, J.K. Technosoft Ltd, Open Access Technology India, Hastie Engineers, Stanley Works and others.

The faculty members of Ashmah international School, Mohali attended workshop preparing them to meet upcoming challenges in education.
Brigadier Jagdev, a renowned expert in academics and trends in teaching technology brushed up the teachers’ knowledge bank giving emphasis on continual learning amongst teachers.
“Teachers should work towards of their professional skills,” he said sharing the findings regarding educational system, innovative techniques and methods to make the system child centered.
The discussion brought out an interesting revelation about children of working mothers having higher stress levels than their home maker counterparts.
“The role of teacher assumes wider dimensions in such a scenario when cut-throat competition has failed to go down well with the students. With this, the stress level among kids is soaring,” Brig Jagdev explained.
He deliberated that apart from teaching teachers are required to bridge emotional gaps in the child caused due to changing family structures and socio-economic constraints.
The workshop aimed at equipping teachers with necessary skills to identify strengths and capacities of each student individually and thereby modifying teaching technique, to suit learner’s personality and potential.
Introducing this concept of tailor-made-teaching, Brigadier Jagdev also emphasized on development of teacher’s personality too and underlined that teachers themselves need to have strong leadership qualities and high motivational and commitment levels to be able to transmit the same to their students.
School director J.S. Kesar exhorted the efforts of principal Roopinder Ghuman in arranging this workshop.
Kesar said that at least three such workshops would be conducted in a year to update knowledge of teacher and enhance their teaching capabilities.
Roopinder Ghuman said workshop proved highly motivating and inspirational for teachers. She thanked Brig Jagdev for the workshop and added that its benefits would percolate down to the students’ level bringing a sea change.

Overwhelming participation marks mock AIEEE test at Rayat - Bahra institute

Mohali, January 10: Mock AIEEE-2010 test organized by Rayat - Bahra at Rayat-Bahra Bio Technology Centre of Excellence here today received an overwhelming response with over 2300 students from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and surrounding region participating. Aimed at testing skills ahead of AIEEE ’10, the mock test was organized free of cost with a bounty of prizes aimed at encouraging the students.
Special arrangements like pick up and dropping facility for hundreds of students from various locations in and around Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula were made for the test which started early in the day. Informing about the immensely successful mock test S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Vice Chairman, Rayat- Bahra group said that not only free test and facilities provided were an added feature but a bounty of prizes worth over Rs 2.5 lakhs attracted students who tested waters ahead of AIEEE. Students were offered prizes including laptops, PCs, TVs, and scientific calculators besides tuition fee waiver commitments ranging from 25% to 100% waiver while studying in Rayat -Bahra institutes, informed Bahra.

While the topper of mock test to be declared soon would receive Laptop along with a 100% waiver on tuition fee at entry level while studying in any Rayat and Bahra institute. Second and third ranking students would get personal computers and a tuition fee waiver of 75% and 50% respectively while fourth position student would get colour TV and 25% tuition fee waiver offer. MP3 players and 25% tuition fee waiver in Rayat and Bahra institutes at entry level is for the students ranked between 5 and15. 35 Consolation prizes of scientific calculators, movie tickets and 25% tuition waiver benefits were also given.

Sardar Bahra further added that the group not only provides quality education but also encourages meritorious, physically challenged and other needy students by way of concessions. In addition to the scholarships awarded for mock test toppers, 50% tuition waivers are already being given to students whose parents are not alive or whose brother or sister are studying in Rayat - Bahra institute. Besides 25 % of tuition fee waive is being given to students whose father is not alive or to physically challenged students.
