Rayat-Bahra Formula car to compete at prestigious Formula SAE International competition at Fontana

Chandigarh, May 30

After having collected accolades for its Super Mileage car, unstoppable Rayat-Bahra team has now come out with its Rayat-Bahra Formula car that has 600 CC engine {Honda CBR 600 RR liquid cooled} facilitated with a turbo charger making it the first of its kind in Asia to be built by the students and compete internationally.

All decked with the new shiny and sleek beauty, team of Rayat Institute of Engineering & Information Technology will compete at prestigious Formula SAE International competition at Fontana, California, USA, which is to be held from June 17 to June 20, 2009.

S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra Vice Chairman, Rayat-Bahra group said, “We feel immense pride to unveil this formula car, which is first of its kind.” He informed that the car has a five speed gearing mechanism and can reach upto 110 km/hr within 4.4 seconds. Weighing 300 kg, this beauty on wheels gives speed of 260 km/hr. It has cutting edge maneuverability, has aerodynamic design, appreciable ergonomics and is brimmed with advance safety equipments. High tech creation was designed and analysed using software like Pro –E and AN-SYS.

S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra flanked by the team and Prof CM Behal, MD Rayat-Bahra group, Dr. T.P. Singh, Director Rayat Institute of Engineering and Information Technology unveiled Rayat-Bahra Formula Car today.

S. Bahra said that SAE - Society of Automotive Engineer, California organizes competition every year at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. It aims to discover best Formula car based upon handling, performance, manufacturability, design, cost and endurance.

This prestigious 29 years old contest will witness participants from 35 countries across the globe in various categories like U.K, U.S.A, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Germany Australia etc.

The team behind this car has 10 students of second and third year of Rayat Institute of Engineering & Information Technology. Nine students are from mechanical engineering and one student is from electrical engineering wing.

Team is led by Ashish Das. Other members of team are Kenneth Dean, Prasanjeet Das, Tarun, Parshant Kumar, Ashok Singh, Honey Sharma, Nitin Saini, Ramesh Chander and Jagatit Singh Parmar.

Faculty advisors of team are Mr. Jujhar Singh and Mr. Rajesh Chaudhary and Dr. Manoj Bali is legal advisor. The technical guide of team is Mr. Ranjit Randhawa, a Kharar based racing bikes expert. The team got their car’s engine from Mr. Amrinder Singh, a motorcycle racer by profession and also deals in sales of racing bikes.

Last year Rayat-Bahra Super-mileage Car participated in Super Mileage Competition hosted by Society of Automotive Engineer (SAE) at Marshall in Michigan (USA) in June 2008.

The car bagged first place in Asia and 13th position in world. It was awarded with Bir Davinder Singh Bansal Memorial Award for Best B-Tech Project, given by Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE).

It secured first place in Running Innovation National-Competition organized by Baba Banda Singh College of Engineering, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab.
